Delhi Cuisines

Delhi Food :
From age - old eateries in the by lanes of the Walled City to glitzy, specialty restaurants in five - star hotels, Delhi is a moveable feast. It offers a choice of Indian and international cuisines in different ambiences to suit varied budgets. For gourmets, Delhi is synonymous with Mughlai and Frontier cuisines. The best of Mughlai cuisine can be enjoyed at Karim, (both in Jama Masjid and Nizamuddin) where recipes, dating from the times of the Mughals have been the closely - guarded secret of generation of chefs.Delhi Ka Aangan (Hyatt Regency), Darbar (Ashoka Hotel) and Corbetts (Claridges) are among the many options available in the expensive range, while Gulati Restaurant (Pandara Market), Angeethi (Asiad Village) and Degchi (Regal Building) are among those catering to more modest budgets. The finest Frontier cuisine is available at the Bukhara (Maurya Sheraton), Frontier (Ashoka Hotel) and Baluchi (The Hilton). At the other end of the scale are many popular road side eateries around Jama Masjid and Nzamuddin where kababs, rotis and biryani are order of the day.
Delhi Food : New Delhi's combines traditional Indian favorites from both the North and South regions of India. The seasonings used to delicately flavour the food are custom blended.

Delhi Drinks : Soft Drinks: Plenty of local and international brands of soft drinks are available, through local brands (such as Mirinda & Pepsi).

Fruit Juices & Other Drinks: Delicious fruit juices are sold at cafes and juices stalls. They come in exotic varieties such as mango, custured apple and lychee.

Alcoholic Drinks : Foreign beer have entered the local market backed by well-oiled publicity machines. Foster's is the first international brewer to invest in local operations.

 Delhi Shopping :

Delhi is a paradise for shoppers. Here you can buy almost anything from anywhere in India. Delhi has thousands of good shops tidily grouped together...

▪Dilli Hatt The Delhi Haat in Kidwai Nagar is a nice place to spend the day. The Haat or the market has good eating joints and handicraft shops. Delhi Haat provides you delicacies from all parts of India in its various stalls. From time to time theme fairs and festivals are also organised. The South Extension market and the Lajpat Nagar Central market are places where you can find all the big names in any category. These places are also good for window shopping and for a cool stroll.

Chor Bazaar A Curious bazaar behind the old ramparts of the Red Fort, which comes to life on Sundays to trade a mix of "secondhand" and allegedly stolen goods.

Meena Baazar A distinctively islamic bazaar of cramped shops clustered around the base of the Jami Masjid, full of clothes, domestic implements and smells not found in Hindu regions of the city. Here you can buy burquas, dupattas, topis, caged chickens, bangles, kebabs, sticky sweetmeats and devotional pictures for shrines.

Chawri Bazaar: Named After the Marathi word Chawri (meeting place), this street, running west from the Jami Masjid, was once flanked by the huge mansions which were destroyed by the British after the Murthy. In the nineteenth century it was famous for its "dancing girls", who looked into the streets below from arched windows and balconies; they were moved out by the Delhi Municipal Corporation in the twentieth century. Today the shops specialize in copper and brass Buddhas, Vishnus, Krishnas, belis, lamps, ashtrays, masks and boxes.

Nai Sarak The long road, Nai Sarak, which connects Chawri Bazaar with Chandni Chowk, is lined with nineteenth- and twentieth-century building whose lower storeys are used for making and selling paper, and houses shops stocking educational books and stationery.

Chandni Chowk
Chandni Chowk was famous for the Fountains and the shops during the Mughal period. Located opposite to the Red fort, the fountains of the Chowk have disappeared but the shops still remain. The attraction of the shops in the region are not the big showrooms but the small shops in the by lanes. Some of these shops offer you better bargain than the big showrooms. The Sadar Bazzar and the Khari Baoli are the largest whole sale markets in the northern region of India. Dariba Kalan is still known for the perfumes and Jewellery. One can not miss the Lajpat Rai market where one gets any kind of electronic item. While going around Chandni Chowk pay special attention on your pockets and beware of touts and the duplicate products.
